In Toronto
my intensive exercise training program started that would prepare me for
testing and my first race. Testing began on February 20 for the P-1
Racing team. So once again we flew out to California as I was testing at
Buttonwillow. The first day of testing started off a little slow, since
I haven’t been in a car for two months. My engineer for this season
will be Bill Fickling the Team Owner. We started off with a base line
setup and tried different things so I could feel them. I worked well
with the changes and gave good feed back to Bill so he could make other
changes. After the first day, I was able to get down to a 59.30, while my
teammate Tony Ave got down to a 59.10. Overall it was a pretty good day,
I got comfortable in the NTN car again and the times started to come down. The
next day started on a good note getting into the 58’s right away,
turning a 58.83 in the morning.

Everyone joked around saying that it must have been the big bowl of pasta
that I had the night before. Like the previous day we tried different
things with the NTN car and small things with the engine as well. At the end
of the day, I finally worked my time down to a 58.51, and Tony doing the
same time as well. The fastest time of the day was a 58.30, which was done
at the end of the day. So the opening test went fairly well and we all
look forward to a promising year.

The next test is the week of February 26 in sunny
California. So I look forward to the next time I am on the track and
learning more about my NTN car. So for now its back to the gym and getting
more in shape for my first race in Long Beach on April 7, 2001. Until next
time keep it on the track.
