P-1 Racing drivers Tony Ave and Jonathan Macri completed their two day test at Willow Springs in California on February 27-28. Tuesday was mainly lost due to rain until 1:30pm. When the track finally dried, Macri had engine problems after just three laps. Crew Chief Ken Kline and Second Mechanic Troy McCall worked feverishly and changed the engine in time for Jonathan to turn some laps before the end of the day. Ave had an off in Turn 9 after just a few laps on Tuesday and lost almost the whole day as well. Wednesday saw both drivers log in many miles around the 2.5 mile 9-turn road course known as
"the fastest track in the west." Macri completed close to 250 miles as both he and Ave turned fast
laps in the 1 minute 11.7 second range. Next test will be in Phoenix on the PIR oval on Monday March 5th, and the Firebird Roadcourse on March 7-8. |
