The 2001 Cart-Toyota Atlantic Championship Series ended this past Saturday, and to cap this year's 2001 season , an Awards Banquet was held Sunday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, in Monterey, California. In addition to claiming his 5th- place Championship Award, 19-year-old-Gormley, Ontario rookie, Jonathan Macri (P-1 Racing/NTN Bearings Swift), also walked away with the prestigious "BBS Rising Star" Award, which was presented by BBS of America Motorsports Manager, Bill Baker. The award honors an Atlantic driver who has performed in a most competitive fashion and is a star of the future. "It's great satisfaction to be honoured by your peers," Jonathan said. "It feels good to know that all your efforts as a driver have been recognized. I would like to thank P-1 Racing and NTN Bearings for making this possible. I am looking forward to racing in 2002." For the 2001 Atlantic season Jonathan was looking to post a top-five Championship finish. With his ambition realized and his fine performance duly recognized, the challenge now rests for this rising star to race for nothing less than the coveted Atlantic Championship in 2002.
