With Cleveland’s Burke Lakefront Airport Raceway reporting 74% humidity and 84 degrees, track conditions were less than desirable for the afternoon provisional qualifying session. Macri, driver of the #84 NTN Bearings Toyota Swift, was still able to qualify 5th with a best lap time of 1:06.473 after the 40 minute qualifying round. The 2.106 – mile temporary road course track made true competitors of the drivers as all the top seven drivers in the session turned laps within one second of each other.

“I still feel we are doing reasonably well”, said Macri. “It seemed to really come down to the tires this time. After we switched to the second set, we really did well. I am disappointed in the performance of the final lap though. (Luis) Diaz (#33 Telmex) got in front of me and I wasn’t able to get around him. He slowed me up a bit, but the times were close so I just have to pull ahead tomorrow.”

Tomorrow's on track activities begin at 4:45p.m. with the second and final qualifying session to determine the starting grid. Round six of the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship race is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. EST. Speed Channel will televise the race from the Burke Lakefront Airport raceway tape-delayed on Sunday, July 6, 1:00 p.m. EST and again on Monday, July 7 at 4:00 p.m. EST.
